Weed Warriors
INVASIVE PLANT REMOVAL
Weed Warriors take action to reduce the negative impact of invasive plant species in Westfield Washington Township parks, trails, and open spaces, and thus improving the aesthetic and recreational quality of our public places. Weed Warriors reflect the willingness of the local citizens to be involved and take part in their community as environmental stewards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You would actively remove invasive plant species from parks, trails, and open spaces. Invasive plants include, but are not limited to, Himalayan blackberry, ivy, garlic mustard, and scotch broom. Typical tasks may include pulling weeds, carrying loads to dumpsters, and site cleanup.
All Weed Warriors will meet with the Volunteer Coordinator and learn about proper invasive plant removal techniques and safety standards.
Qualifications:
You must be at least 13 years of age or older (unless volunteering as part of a family)

Qualifications:
- Able to comfortable working outside, sometimes on uneven ground and willing to get dirty. It also may be necessary to walk on unimproved trails and/or sloped areas to access the areas to be maintained.
- Able to follow directions.
- Initiative to work independently.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Interact and communicate with the public in a professional manner.
- Able to work outside in a variety of conditions such as heat, cold, or rain.
- Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and
moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling of materials. - Appearance should be a positive reflection of the organization.
- Closed toed shoes and long pants are required.
